THE ROCK REVOLUTION
This season, inspired by the haute hippie, bohemian aesthetic and passionate, freethinking ideals of the 1960s and 1970s, Sixty Group Co-Founder and Creative Director Wichy Hassan created a collection that references the era while staying true to the Miss Sixty heritage of sexiness, glamour, and irony. Rock and roll attitude – as depicted in Performance, the surreal 1968 cult film starring Mick Jagger – is evoked in the collection’s eclectic mix of heavy wool, soft jersey, and sumptuous silk fabrications. Groovy multicolor stripes and psychedelic prints are tie-dyed to add richness, while fabrics are combined in lush layers to create depth. Geometric prints with a vintage feel are re-worked and re-imagined to produce an ironic modernization of the ‘70s. Airy chiffons are combined with chunky knits to form a juxtaposition of texture and weight that is smartly seductive.
Macro-volume tops and boot-cut trousers are paired in a deliberate contrast that recalls the easy, unconventional glamour of Woodstock-era icon Janis Joplin – the high-priestess of rock. Bold accessories such as handbags, footwear, jewelry, sunglasses and watches complete each look, paying homage to the jangling, vivacious ethos that defined Janis’s superstar style.
Tailored jackets are high-belted to emphasize the waist, creating a sexy hourglass silhouette, while dresses are cut close to the body to accentuate the femininity of the Miss Sixty woman.
Shades of green, orange, purple, and yellow dominate the collection, combining to create an alluring pastiche of color. Injected with vibrant electric hues to add a pop of ‘80s sizzle, the palette – and indeed the entire collection – is a kaleidoscope of inspirations drawn from the outlandish cultureof the rock revolution.
The Fall/Winter 2008 collection is imbued with the beatnik spirit and liberated, confident attitude of the hippie movement of the 1960s and 1970s – all while maintaining the sophistication, sensual femininity, and edgy design that are quintessentially Miss Sixty.
